Media Institute of the Caribbean launches Virtual Caribbean Media Summit on 5th May 2022
Two of the region’s most influential and west established media industry entities come together for this landmark event to release two publications which reflect the Caribbean media reality.
Independent Journalism and the State of the Media globally is at the centre of democracies globally as societies continue to face the challenges of misinformation and disinformation.
Adding to those challenges is the issue of Journalism Under Digital Siege which is this year’s World Press Freedom Day theme, stemming from the complications of the digital landscape which has created easy transmission of fake news; cyber security threats to journalists as experienced with Pegasus and most recently Predator spyware; and cyber bullying of journalists which is a known occurrence in the Caribbean region.
These sessions will reveal the issues of media viability in the Caribbean and how independent journalism is a significant fact of viability with Jamaica as a key case study; as well as explore the state of Caribbean media based on regional country reports.
