Feeding the region in the pandemic
As the pandemic persists, there is growing concern regionwide about the ability of Caribbean countries to maintain reliable supplies and production of affordable, safe, and nutritious food.
In both instances where there is substantial domestic production and where there is heavy reliance on imports, there is also a focus on reducing the region’s substantial food import bill.
Supply chain disruptions, rising cost of primary products and agricultural inputs, and severe economic challenges however present real threats to achievement of these goals.
In this interview with MIC, leading Caribbean agriculturalist, Dr H. Arlington Chesney, discusses these and other issues with journalist Wesley Gibbings.
